Lossless Videocodec wanted

(1/1)

may24:
Hi all,

in another video amateur forum (which focus more on video pruduction) there was a question raised about available lossless videocodecs.
It should be predestinated for cutting (so no mpeg-x derivate) and also should support 4:4:4 color sampling.
Huffyuv - my first idea - supports only 4:2:2. I've heard of Lagarith but have no experience with it.

Any suggestions ?

FFV1 supports 4:4:4, along with other colorspace models - it's included in practically anything that uses libavcodec (meaning, ffmpeg, ffdshow, mencoder, etc.).  Lagarith, like HuffYUV, can only go up to 4:2:2 - as far as I know, anyway.

To access it graphically, select ffdshow from your NLE's/VirtualDub's compression offerings, and then select FFV1 from the drop-down on the Encoder tab, and make sure the Colorspace option is set to 444P.  Make sure that on the Decoder tab, FFV1 is set to libavcodec.

Maybe UtVideo can fulfill your needs?
It's pretty fast for encoding and decoding on multicore machines.
